From skits to hits: Avneesha Martins shares her creative journey as a pop star, radio host and TikTok icon
We’ve given avneesha . the mic this week but it’s a position she’s been comfortable with for years. As a radio host on CADA for the past three years, she started off as one third of pop girl group Mischief, belting out high notes that still capture people’s attention in her parody, often Bollywood-themed, TikToks (where she boasts 2.8 million followers). She balances her many creative worlds with ease – and lets us in on the secret of how she unwinds out of the spotlight.
If our partnership was a movie, what would the title be?
I think the movie would be called Creative Synergy, mainly because I love the way we’ve collaborated over the years. It’s been all about merging creativity, trust and freedom to produce content that truly stands out.
What has been your top career highlight?
One stand-out career highlight for me would be hosting my own radio show for two years. I had no previous radio experience so jumping into was nerve-wracking at first but I learned so much along the way. I am really proud of the results and all the successes my team and I achieved during that time. It was an incredibly fun and rewarding journey!
What would people be surprised to know about you?
Most people probably don’t know this but I used to be in a girl group called Mischief. I was part of the group for five years and we released quite a few songs. It was very bubblegum pop! It feels like a lifetime ago now but it was such an unforgettable and fun experience. Sometimes I’ll secretly listen to the songs for the memories.
What’s your go-to karaoke song?
My go-to karaoke song is My Heart Will Go On by Celine Dion. Honestly, those last notes are so difficult to hit and, by the end, I’m practically screaming! But it’s totally worth it every time.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
I’m not sure if this qualifies as a guilty pleasure but I absolutely love going to the movies, especially for a Choc Top. There’s something about having one at the cinema that just hits differently. Sometimes, I’ll even agree to see a movie I’m not super keen on, just for the Choc Top experience!
