Nick Slater: A creator who can entertain on the big and little screen

Nick Slater may have started off in audio engineering but it was his role at Nova Melbourne radio where his real creative journey began. From acting in Neighbours to starring in the US series Reign, he discovered his desire to be the one making the creative decisions. He began building his social media following and, in 2023, launched becomng, a podcast, blog and community focused on holistic self-improvement. It’s a story arc fit for the big screen.

Explain your job as if you’re talking to a 10-year-old:

I make fun videos on the internet so adults can laugh and learn stuff!

[TPM: In all seriousness, Nick is being modest. While we’ve spent many hours laughing at his tea-towel skits on socials, his podcast becmng delves into topics that teach people about wellbeing, love (and, in particular, the trials and tribulations of modern dating) and mental health. His vulnerability and openness continues to pull in top-rated guests and listeners.]

What would people be surprised to know about you?

I love spending time by myself. Just me, my thoughts… and maybe a snack.  I’m an introverted extrovert – so as much as I love a boat party, I’m just as excited to end the night with pizza on the couch.

[TPM: We’ve been on many a travel trip with Nick for White Claw so colour us surprised.]

If our partnership was a movie, what would the title be?

Two Palms, One Nick, No Worries – an epic tale of Australia’s best creative agency teaming up with a semi-okay content creator to make life-changing content.

[TPM: Well, at least we’d be in line to see that movie. From snowy Thredbo with White Claw to running adventures with Hoka in Bondi, we’d rate him more than ‘semi-okay’.]

What’s your most unpopular opinion?

Pineapple belongs on pizza. And if you disagree, you’re wrong (but we can still be friends).

[TPM: Trying not to judge.]

What has been your top career highlight?

I (somehow) booked the role of Prince Henri in the US network series Reign.  In one scene, I galloped through a medieval French village, sword drawn, delivering a monologue. Not sure I’ll ever top that.

[TPM: As career highlights go, that’s definitely something for the memoir. Double props on the believable horse riding and sword holding skills!]
